Roof Cleaning Prices

It is highly advise you have your roof cleaned by a professional roof cleaning contractor who cleans roofs day in day out for a full time living and not an odd job man who is willing to give it a go for some weekend beer money.
Using the wrong cleaning agents, pressure and techniques could result in serious damage to you home, not to forget the safety aspect of working at height.
Is the person/company quoting your roof to be cleaned fully insured, got the relevant training to be working at height and operating access machinery or even training in erecting portable scaffolding towers?
These are all things to take into account when gaining quotations to have your property's roof cleaned, it shouldn't always come down to the roof cleaning price but more the quality of the service you are going to receive.

Average Cost For Roof Cleaning In The UK

Terraced House
Small Semi Detached or Terraced House
This is a house with a standard front and rear elevation with no side hips.
We would remove the moss manually using a hand-held scraping tool, clear all debris from the gutters and apply a roof cleaning treatment.
All debris removed from the roof and gutters will be removed from your property.

Prices Start From £395*

Detached House
Semi Detached/Detached House
A small detached house is a single free-standing residential building.
This would be cleaned using the Manual Moss Removal method followed by a roof treatment. To finish, we would clear away the debris from the gutters and take this away from your property along with the debris removed from your roof.

Prices Start From £495*

Family Home
Average Sized Detached House
Again this property is a stand-alone house. Sometimes referred to as a single-family home, as opposed to a multi-family residential dwelling.
The method used would be a manual moss scrape to remove the bulk of the moss from the roof, we would then apply a treatment followed by a gutter clear.
Both roof and gutter debris will be removed from your property.

Prices Start From £595

Large Detached House
Large Detached House
Typically a large property with several additional roofs which may consist of a porch and double garage, maybe even an extension. With a property this size we anticipate the work to take several days.
Just as we stated above, the method used to clean the roof would be by hand removing the moss, applying a treatment and cleaning out the gutters of debris.
All debris will be removed from your property for your peace of mind.

Prices Start From £795*

Roof Moss Treatment

As you will notice, the above prices are estimated using the Manual Moss Removal method, we do also offer a Roof Pressure Washing Service.
Manually scraping the moss by hand is the most gentle way to remove the moss from your roof, the treatment we then apply afterwards is used to kill off any lichens, algae and moss spores that are left behind.
With this method there is very little water used (if any) so yourself and neighbours will be pleased to know that the mess is minimal and you won't be experiencing any spray of mud, grit or moss on your driveway, car and surrounding areas, with that being said, our team will always clean all areas that have got mucky or any bits of moss that may have dropped.
Rest assured, your property will be left clean and tidy when our team leave.

How Long After Having The Moss Removed From My Roof Will It Be Before It Reappear?

If you were to just have the moss removed with no post treatment applied you would notice moss regrowth within a very short period of time.
This is due to it is impossible to remove every single moss spore from the roof as they are burred deep within the roof tile joints and any gaps present on the roof, this being the reason it is highly recommended to have a post treatment of biocide applied to the roof.
The biocide treatment will ensure all the hidden moss spore are killed therefore prolong any regrowth, keeping your roof cleaner for longer.
It is hard to give an exact time frame of how long the roof will stay moss free for as there are just to many varying factor to take into consideration such as -
The climate
Your Property Surrounding
Neighbouring Roofs Covered In Moss
This being said the manufacture of the biocide treatment we use gives a guide of 3-4 years before you should notice any signs of regrowth.
To totally prevent moss reappearing on the roof it is a simple case of a maintenance application of biocide treatment every 2-3 years which will keep your roof looking clean and moss free for many years to come.

Should I Have The Moss Removed From My Roof Or My Roof Pressure Washed?

This is all dependant on a few factors like the condition of your roof and the type of roofing tiles.
After a professional roof cleaning contractor has visited your property they will then be able to advise the best method to having your roof cleaned.
If the roof is in a sorry state with problems showing such as pointing missing, torn underlay/membrane, loose flashing etc.. then pressure washing defiantly isn't the answer as it is highly likely water would penetrate into your home.
Manually removing the moss and applying a biocide treatment to kill any remaining moss is a lot more gentle on the roof, a lot less messy and there is no risk of water damage within your home.

What Will My Roof Look Like After It Has Been Cleaned?

This is all depends on the condition of the tile, if the the tiles are relatively new they will; return back to there original colour like the one below -

If the tiles is older then it is highly likely the colour coating has deteriorated over the year and will end up going a more like the photo below. -

Can Moss Cause Damage To My Roof?

In a short answer yes it can, but it will only really damage your roof when there is large amounts of moss present on you roof. Certain roof tiles are also more prone to being damage than other, we have noticed when cleaning roofs that clay tiles seems to show signs of deterioration where moss has been on the tile for a long period of time, we have also seen cement tiles were moss has eaten into the tile causing pitting and defacing the tile.
One of the mains areas we see damage on roofs caused by moss is on the cement pointing of ridge tile, valleys, chimney stacks and flaunching.

Will Pressure Washing a Roof Damage Roof The Tiles?

We get asked all the time is it safe to pressure wash my roof or will pressure washing my roof damage the roof tile so we carried out a little test to show exactly if pressure washing does cause damage to roofing tiles.
Below is the video showing the results we found -

You can expect to pay less if you only have a small amount of debris present on your roof and your roof tiles are standard smooth and flat tiles.
You may end up paying slightly more if your roof is heavily soiled with moss and debris, this is what we call a 'carpet of moss' where the whole roof is overtaken by moss growth. Another factor that may bump up the cost is if there is limited access to your roof therefore needing access hire.
